Here is the club we are doing tonight. We will have different kinds of cereal out when kids can arrive to make their own bowl of cereal. Kids are dressing up in PJs. We also might have on some cartoons. We’ll see how it goes!

Ever since I saw the commercials for the new show Minute To Win It on NBC, I knew it would be great for YL ideas. My friend Dan made a great discovery… Over 70 clips are available on Hulu.com that explain the games. Only problem… I don’t have time to review 70 clips. So I thought I’d embed them a few at a time and let you all make comments to help morph these into club games.

So have at it… watch the clips and try to come up with a detailed game that could work in club, complete with supplies needed, how many people are needed, how to explain, how to win, etc. Read the rest of this entry »

OK my Sun Devils got snubbed and missed out on the big dance. I know they were a bubble team but oh well. At least they are a #1 seed in the NIT. Did I mention that our arch-rivals at the University of Arizona missed the tournament for the first time 25 years… and didn’t even get invited to the NIT. They got invited to some tournament lower then that and then turned it down. That makes me feel a little better.

During our leadership club planning brainstorming meeting we came up with a ton of fun ideas. As you can tell, we have a lot of theme clubs, which the students really enjoy. Sometimes the themes having something to do with current events (i.e. Super Bowl Club, Olympics Club, Prom Club, etc.), other times they have to do with things the kids are into (i.e. Harry Potter Club, Jerk Club), and other times they really don’t have any relevance (i.e. Yellow Club, Bubblewrap Club).

The Olympics have always been a strong theme in YL. I’ve seen plenty of programs at camp utilize this theme. One of my favorite was “Speed and Power”. Speed was an overweight guy and Power was a super skinny guy. Gotta love that. I remember my first club skit in high school was me running through the crowd with a fake Olympic torch before every club game in a toga. Read the rest of this entry »
