Next week we are having an All Area Valentines club. In the past we have done lots of fun things along the lines of the “dating game”. Here is something new we are going to try…
Right at the beginning of the club we are going to pick 2 couples to go on a “date” during club. Right down the street from where we are having club is a mall with a bunch of fast food places. A leader will drive them over, buy them a meal, maybe bring a tablecloth and a small speaker for classical music, something like that. But we are going to get live updates during club. Our backup idea is basically speakerphone. But what we are going to try to do is use Skype or UStream to broadcast free live video from the “date”. Our mall has free wifi. We will pull the kids aside and ask them questions like, “how is the date going?”, “is he treating you like a gentleman?”, “did he open the door for you?”, “what is his best quality so far?”. Just silly fun stuff like that.
Do you have any ideas about how to make this better or any other approaches to a fun club on Valentines day?
PS, for a club talk you could do a talk along the lines of, “True Love”, “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told”.

brilliant idea.
just be careful with the kids you select. since it’s live and unscripted…no telling what they might say about their date.
don’t forget to have the guy’s mom show up during the date…
Yes! Good idea – will use it in the future. Another idea I’ve seen and used is to raffle off the “Loveseat”. There is a loveseat (seats one and a half people) positioned at the front of club, next to the stage and kind of facing the audience. Kid who wins gets to sit up front for the whole club AND invite one lucky guy or gal to join them. We do periodical check-ins and questions, I guess it could be kind of like a low tech version of this post. I’ll be using this next week.
We’ve done this in the past and had a leader dress in a tux and serve them with fancy china at a micky d’s, but the best part was getting a friend of YL in town who owned a limo (or someone who owns a really nice car or even a church bus or something funny) to escort them from club to Mickey D’s
