I really like how this blog is coming together, and I’ve received a lot of positive feedback. But there is one element that hasn’t evolved yet. Sharing of ideas and resources. There have been some very helpful comments, but I’d like to hear from you more!
CONTEST: Send in your best club plan. It should include a group mixer, a participation game (a few kids up front), and a leader skit. It can have a theme, but it doesn’t have to. Submit via comments (below) or email to email@example.com. The winner will get a brand new YL shirt sent to them right away. The contest ends on Monday night April 7th.

Mixer – Kissing Rugby
Split the boys (by numbers) and girls (by letters) and have them sit in a circle. Have one girl sit in the middle – then call one boy and one girl and have them rush into the center of the circle. The point of the game is for the boy to kiss the girl who is sitting down on the cheek before the other girl can get the boy and kiss him on the cheek. Repeat this 7-10 times… It is really funny…
Game – ROXANNE!
Call up 5 kids and hand them a can of Coke. The play the song “Roxanne” by The Police… Kids have to take a sip of Coke and eat a marshmallow each time they hear the word “Roxanne”. It is slow at first and then picks up. Very funny…
Leader Skit – Young Life in the 80’s
Leaders dress like kids from the 80’s and make fun of the pop culture from the 1980’s. One leader is a kid from today and is annoyed because he doesn’t understand the 80’s… (Choose popular things that kids today would know to make fun of…i.e – Rubix cube, Thriller, Pink, Neon green, Mohawks…) Skit ends with the kid from today saying that today is way better… Write some dialogue you want for this.
General Feel – The evening should have the feel of sixteen candles meets Napoleon Dynamite. Decorate with Streamers and have punch bowls. Create a theme just like any other prom(20,000 leagues under the sea). Have a backdrop – Paint a underwater aquatic scene. Hang a disco ball(pretty cheap at stores like Spencers, you know the cheap novelty mall stores). Also, if you can have some colored lighting everywhere.
Mixer – Team Prom photos. Split the group into 2-3 teams and give them a list of poses they must do as a team within a certain time limit.(i.e. human pyramid, everyone has a finger in someone else’s nose) Have a leader with a camera and the team to pose for the most in 3min wins. Show the photos as a slideshow at the end of club.
Participation Skit – Helping your prom date pick out clothes. Freeze three sets of clothing over night. Make sure they are folded before you dunk them in water and freeze them. The need to be damp and preferably not sitting in an inch of water as they are being frozen. The idea is that men don’t know how to dress themslves so the ladies will help them. The first team of three (1 guy and 2 girls) to dress the guy in the frozen pants, shirt and jacket wins.
Leader Skit – “How to pick up a prom date in 7 easy step” This is done with either 2 girls and 1 guy or usually 2 guys and one girl. There are 2 chairs center “stage” The lights come on and there is one guy out there( this will be the normal guy.) In walks the nerdy guy who needs help finding a date to prom. The cool guy offers help in the form of a list called…you guessed it, “How to pick up a prom date in 7 easy step.” Here is the list:
1. Find a girl(in walks a girl and sits in chair)
2. Sit next to the girl(Nerd walks over and sits on the ground next to her instead of the chair. The cool guy points out the other chair and the nerd sits there)
3. Put your arm around the girl(Nerd uses chessy line to do this)
4. Put your hand on her knee(Nerd uses the same hand that is around her shoulder.)
5. Other hand stupid.
6. Blow in her ear(Large gust of wind)
7. Now kiss her The nerd leans in to kiss her)
The girl then shrieks and jumps into the cool guys arms. The nerd walks off and the cool guy says “7 steps to pick up a prom date…works every time.”
Also we do a dance at the end. We use all songs that have cheesy dance moves(i.e. macarena)
Boy Band Club
Songs: 98 Degrees, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys
Mixer: Music Video
– Divide into four (or 3) groups. Leaders need to bring 4 video cameras that can be plugged into the TV with RCA cables, 4 CD players, and boy band CDs. Kid’s choose what they song they want to do, dress up in crazy skit clothes, then video a music video complete with choreography (sp?). Then play the videos for everyone.
Participation Skit #1: Name that boy band song
– Just like Name that Tune, except with BB songs
Participation Skit #2: Dance off
– This then leads into…
Leader skit: Full choreographed dance to N’Sync ‘Bye Bye Bye’ as taken from their music video.
