TrackbackI’m doing the talk tonight and I had already decided to use Mark 1:9-11, the baptism of Jesus. I was hoping to talk about the incarnation and the start of Jesus’ ministry.
My wife told me of an amazing news story about a woman who, for years, thought she must have a different set of parents, things just didn’t add up with the family she grew up with. Maybe you heard about this story, her name is Carlina White. Basically she was snatched away from the hospital as an infant and raised by another family. Then over the years she grew skeptical of her family and had a hunch that she was from another family. She searched Google, then a national database of abducted children and then got in touch with the police and eventually told them, “I don’t know who I am”. Here is a news clip:

A few weeks ago our team met to plan out our clubs for the semester. Some are variations of clubs we have done in the past and others are brand new themes. I will post the clubs as we do them with notes and ideas.
But for those of you who are interested, I put together a zip file of a complete semester of club plans you can use. The table below shows the plans that I included and the last column gives you a heads-up on the clubs we currently planning. Hope this helps! Young Life develops leadership in people. That is a passive way of saying it, but most of the time our leadership development just happens, somewhat unintentionally. Club needs to happen so people develop the skills to make it happen. Same with campaigners, camps, etc. One way we can be more intentional and active in developing leadership is asking for feedback and self-evaluation.
Sometimes asking for self-evaluation isn’t the right thing to do. If a club and leader have been in the dumps for years then asking for a self-evaluation might feel like asking someone to describe every part of their car that needs to be fixed after they totaled it in a crash. “Thanks for asking, I’d LOVE to talk more about it”. But most of the time self-evaluation can be helpful. By-and-large people like to talk about themselves and appreciate that you want to know what they are thinking. After a semester or year of club our club kids aren’t surprised when we ask them what they think of Jesus, in the same way most leaders are ready to talk about their leadership after a few months of leading.
