Help for Young Life Leaders NOW

We head off to camp in just a few days. Most speakers will provide a couple questions at the end of their talk for cabin time. Some will go further to tell you them in the leader meeting. Some will even give you a handout with all of them on a sheet (woohoo).

I compiled them over the years and have a bunch of them. This can be helpful for any leader, but especially those who might need some extra help. Also it can help if you don’t ask every kid the same question but you reword the question so they can’t answer "what he/she said". This is especially helpful with junior high kids.

So here ya go… Lots of Cabin Time Questions you can use!

Our school just had their Prom. What better to do than a Mock Prom! Have people come in hideous outfits. Get a punch bowl, a backdrop for pictures (I got one a a party store for $5) and a disco ball and you are all set. Enjoy!

Need an alternative to club for the end of the semester or during the summer before camp? We did an all-area Putt Putt tournament and it was super-duper.

We worked out a deal with the local goofey golf place for $4 per person. We charged $5 for kids and free for leaders. It worked out just about right.

We had a small club at the end. This included a contest for best-dressed and lowest score, though you could probably have lots of other things like that too. Maybe a final putt off at the end.

I’m speaking at a junior high summer camp in a several weeks. I want a theme to tie it all together. I’m thinking Transformers (i.e. Jesus can transform people). I loved them as a kid and I think junior high students like them quite a bit too (based off conversations with some of my junior high friends).

I have a 7 talk outline already drafted, but I would love some of your ideas before I post mine (and possibly limit your unlimited collective creative potential).

Any ideas for illustrations, Bible stories, ideas to communicate sin, cross, resurrection, accepting Christ, discipleship, etc.??

With camp coming up, our greatest hope is that a friend will come to the point of beginning a relationship with Christ. Here is an outline you can use for yourself or to train others. The main part is PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE.

Here is an easy way to remember important parts of leading a friend to Christ:

Use a Bible if possible.

PAST – SIN

Our sin has separated us from a healthy relationship with God (Is 59:2), and because of our sin we feel deadly consequences on earth and forever (Rom 6:23).

PRESENT – PRAYER of TRUST AND YIELDING CONTROL

There are two important responses needed.

1. Do you trust Christ, this means belief and faith to the best of your ability (Eph 2:8-9).

2. Do you yield control of your life to Christ, this is repentance (Acts 20:21)

After discussing these you should pray together. Often it is best to say a pray yourself and then have your friend say in their own words that they want to become a Christian.

FUTURE – FOLLOWING CHRIST

From the inside-out God wants your life to look more and more like Jesus’. Learn more and obey, ask for forgiveness (repeat). (Phil 1:6, Col 2:6).

Next steps

• Have them tell someone within 24 hours.
• Contact them within 24 hours.
• Bring them to a Bible study, small group or church within a week.
• Encourage them to be baptized at a church.
